There were no boats to disrupt the harmony, no sounds except for the gentle whispers of nature.

I stood there in that moment within the scene of stillness: the waters lay calm, reflecting the soft light like a polished mirror. The marina, a harbor of peace, stood quiet and unmoving.

Even the seagulls were at rest, their wings tucked neatly by their sides, while the turtles, often curious and playful, now slumbered below the surface. In those moments of stillness, I felt God’s presence — a quiet assurance that in the midst of busy lives, peace is waiting for you to experience.

When sleep is far from me, I don’t find comfort in counting sheep. Instead, I turn to a soothing lullaby from the beginning of the 23rd Psalm.

It offers words that wrap around my restless mind, bringing the peace I so desperately crave.

For many, sleep can feel like chasing a distant star. Our minds race with worries and fears, shadows of past regrets and failures. Anxiety roars creating a whirlwind of thoughts that can keep us wide awake in the silence of the night.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. Psalm 23:1

Here comes the promise “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.” This statement is more than a mere proclamation; it’s a powerful choice. “I shall not want” means that my needs are met by the Good Shepherd who knows my heart intimately. It brings me comfort to know He holds me in that moment and will continue to hold me as I sleep and when I wake.

He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters. Psalm 23:2

In the midst of life’s chaos, He gently leads me to places of peace—the words of comfort In the scriptures that beckon for me to pause and breathe. Left to my own devices, I would rush through each day, even good intentions pulling me into a whirlwind that steals my moments of rest. But there, in that serene space, He invites me to surrender. As I lie down on that soft, welcoming grass, I allow my eyes to flutter closed, inhaling deeply and feeling my soul rejuvenated by the simple beauty of His presence.

He knows when I’m weary, when my heart craves those still waters—those sacred moments filled with comfort and care.

The imagery in this Psalm paints a beautiful promise of refuge, a haven where the chaos of life fades into the background. They say “still waters run deep,” but here, it’s not about the depths; it’s about the soothing calmness they embody. They remind me of the peace found in stillness, a reflection of true rest.

They mirror the very essence of sleep.
