Psalms 91:1-2
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”
Just look at the first two verses, and you’ll see four excellent titles the names for God:
- Most High: Elyon.
- Almighty: Shaddia.
- The LORD: Yahweh.
- My God: Elohay.
“It matters where you dwell and who you dwell with.”
Living in the South, I have a better definition of the word dwell. They sit and visit and stand and visit, not gossip. They ask how’s your Daddy doing? How about your Mama? They’ll go through the whole family, then bring up a great memory and end the conversation sharing about what they are going through, and leave with a great big “Well, bless your heart.”
Dwell – strongs # 3427 Hebrew Pronunciation yaw-shav’ ( Lol, it sounds southern)
Meaning -to dwell, remain, sit, abide to remain, stay, make yourself at home, seek refuge, feel safe, to abide as a permanent resident.
When my son Logan was in kindergarten, his teacher told me they had a tornado drill, and the students were asked to get under their desks. She said the little girl next to him became frightened and upset. She told me how Logan calmly communicated to the little girl, “It’s ok, come here under my desk. I have a great big Angel protecting me.”
See, the Father has already provided supernatural an invisible fortress about you.
Secret place- a place of sacred and holy concealment. God will shield you with His presence and make evil powerless before you.
Dwell, sit, sleep, and remain under the protection of God’s presence.
There’s a deeper understanding of the Hebrew word -Shadow
Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…’” (Genesis 1:26)
The Hebrew language is amazing. There are gems in the text you will never see reading in any other language. That’s why I dig into the word.
The Hebrew word for “in our image” Strong’s H6754 – ṣelem “to shade” the Hebrew word for “shadow.” We were created in the shadow of God!
When we are kids, we see our image in our very own shadow, and when we move, it moves. A shadow does exactly what the person does. If dancing, the shadow dances. If you are running, the shadow runs.
So, how does a shadow form? It is when sunlight or light hits an object, and the exact form of that object casts a shadow. The shadow is an exact representation of the person.
Your shadow casts a reflection. The shadow is proof of your image. If you get closer to the light, the shadow is bigger. When you move away from the light, your image disappears.
Psalm 91:1-2 Message Bible
I do love ❤️ this version.
Psalm 91:1-2
“You who sit down in the High God’s presence, spend the night in Shaddai’s shadow, say this: “God, you’re my refuge. I trust in you and I’m safe!” That’s right—he rescues you from hidden traps and shields you from deadly hazards. His huge outstretched arms protect you— under them, you’re perfectly safe; his arms fend off all harm.”
